Artist's Statement

Living in New England is wonderful for an artist whose art is primarily about landscape. The changes that the four seasons make to the seashore, fields, mountains, forests and cityscapes provide a wide opportunity for expression. In my art, I attempt to portray the atmospheric moods of a place. There are days when the air, the slant of sunlight, snow, fog, and other seasonal changes make a landscape special in my memory.

Whether I am making monotypes or painting with pastels, landscapes are my favorite subject. I use my photographs for inspiration and to express my feelings about what I see. The places that I depict are not specific places, but a deliberate mixture of elements that make a landscape familiar to me and to viewers of my work.

My intention is to elicit feelings and thoughts of landscapes, real and imagined.
