EDITIONS
: Some prints can be made as editions and they carry specific notation
along with the artist’s signature. The total number of prints in an
edition is shown as the bottom number while the number of each print is
the top number. For example, 5/50 means that the print so labeled is the
fifth print in a total edition of fifty prints. Some editions may carry
the words “edition variable” meaning there are small differences
in each image. Hand-colored etchings might contain this information. Other
editions are printed to be a close as possible to one another on the same
size paper. |
