ETCHINGS (intaglio prints) are created by incising a line or texture into a plate. The ink is rubbed into these crevices and wiped clean from the flat surface of the plate before printing. When the plate is printed under the pressure of the etching press, the ink is squeezed from the grooves to the damp paper, creating the etched image. Etchings are often created in editions. New technology exists for creating less toxic intaglio prints, including Solar plates, Pronto Plates and other techniques. Etching in photo: |
